I hope this message finds you well and enjoying our wonderful Michigan weather.
Sir, I'm writing to follow up on years of writing to Mr. Moolenar on this topic: ISPs and Cable companies screwing the people of Michigan.
I told Mr. Moolenar in the past that the cable companies and ISPs in the United States are being outed and often sued nationwide over anti-competitive practices and Michigan is no different. I told him it would get worse soon if we let them write our latest legislation like has been proven in Tennessee and Kentucky and dozens of other states.
You see, ISPs want to have their cake and to eat it too; they don't want to upgrade or deploy broadband into low ROI areas, but they don't want others to either. And they certainly don't want added outside pressure disrupting the good thing (read: duopoly regulatory capture resulting in no competition and higher rates) they've enjoyed for fifteen years. While companies like AT&T could deter towns and cities from looking for creative alternatives by offering better, cheaper service, it's much less expensive to throw money at accessible lawmakers who, with the help of groups like ALEC, craft and pass laws protecting the duopoly status quo and keeping competitors out.

And while this process has played out in dozens of states repeatedly over the last fifteen years (more than twenty states have let ISPs write similar state laws), our own Michelle Hoitenga's lack of experience recently provided a closer look at the often-grotesque process. Hoitenga doesn't appear to even remotely understand how the broadband industry works, from her belief that Michigan residents have 37 different ISPs to choose from, to her argument that letting giant ISPs dictate what locals can do in their own communities somehow...helps the little guy?
Sir, all I can say is, "what is this clueless woman doing legislating on something she doesn't seem to know anything about, as soon as she comes on the scene?"
Does that make ANY kind of logical sense?
Add to that, Campaign finance records show that two of her largest campaign contributors are AT&T Michigan and the Telecommunications Association of Michigan (TAM): AT&T gave her campaign money while TAM provided her with fairly large amounts for a first term state representative. The Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association — a separate entity from TAM — ALSO gave to her campaign.
According to state lobbying records reviewed by IBT, Hoitenga met and dined with TAM lobbyists during the first half of the year. Michigan’s lobbying disclosures are filed every six months, so it is currently unknown if TAM lobbyists has met with Hoitenga since June. The $142.82 spent to take Hoitenga out for a meal appears to be the only food and beverage expense TAM has disclosed in conjunction with its lobbying since 2001 , as far back as online lobbying records go.
The big picture, Sir, is that these companies have been systematically raping Americans for decades. Comcast now charges me a MINIMUM $75 for an internet connection that they then throttle based on what "kind" of internet traffic I use. They charge me another $75 just to get the THREE CHANNELS my family cares about that are purposefully separated across packages to force adoption of higher pricing. All while my cable guide is flooded with a TON of shit I don't want or need. Literally a thousand channels? Of crap? Hell, it's a challenge to find channels I DO have access to and my bill is a total $150+ a month. 1000 channels of shit programming and that's not to mention that every damn show I let my 12 year old watch has to stretch the boundaries of the American moral fabric with the LBGTQ+ agenda. Supergirl is now GAY! I have to explain THAT FAR sooner than I ever wanted to. Thank you cable company, NOT!
Then, this spring, after 25 years as a customer using up to 3 Terabytes a month, even back in 02 when they only gave you 12Megabits per second, I am now charged $50 DOLLARS for 50GB after going over 1TB in a month, just because, MONEY. (And I price and build these kind of networks, it's money. They are making it hand over fist. There is nothing driving increases but greed.That "fee" is at a rate greater than 5 times higher than what they charged me for the first 1000GBs)
They will give me blazing speeds to stream content at far higher bandwidth than any person actually needs (again wasting my now capped monthly bandwidth allotment), as long as Netflix pays them, for more money. They are literally invading our privacy by monitoring every site every member of my family goes to and selling our private personal habits and detailed information about our browsing and purchase for...wait for it...MORE money! Hell, these god damn companies make 32BILLION per QUARTER!!!!!!!! ...and they apparently have teams dedicated to dreaming up ever more creative and right impinging ways to squeeze even MORE money out of their customers, and they are lobbying NOW to make it so cities with shitty connectivity can't even GET a company to come in and do better. This is NUTS. It's even MORE nuts that our own government leaders are the ones getting these laws put in place.
I've said it for over a decade that we have already been screwed and they are going to tighten them. Here they are trying to tighten them right in front our face! With a FRESHMAN legislator no less. Do you think her platform had ANYTHING to do with "protecting those poor telcos in Michigan from competition?" It is literally STUPID to let them WRITE the legislation that screws your people. Please do something about this.
Finally, before I leave you, I'll tell you the same thing I told Mr. Moolenaar, I WANT TO HEAR YOU. I watch and I listen. If you are speaking out, if you are making yourself known, if you are looking out for the people of Michigan, I'll know it and I'll tell EVERYBODY how good a job you're doing, in person, not anonymously on the net. 1) We didn't enlist because we were poor, stupid, or lacked opportunities. You like to think that, because it makes you feel superior, but that's not the case. We enlisted because we have a love of country and a willingness to sacrifice.
2) We are overwhelmingly republican, so stop trying to turn us into talking points or props for your agenda, which we do not agree with.
3) To expound on number 2 above, the closer you get to the tip of the spear, the more right-leaning we become. So, that former supply sergeant who you turn to as a "Liberal veteran" is not a good representative of our ranks. Basically, everyone who is continually putting themselves in harm's way is the polar opposite of you when it comes to core beliefs. Show me a card carrying liberal democrat in special operations, and I'll show you what is either a case of stolen valor, or the guy everyone else hates, and we've probably thrown his shit out into the hallway.
4) We all knew what we were getting into. (Remember when I said that we weren't stupid?). It's a nice research article by someone too young to truly understand the big picture or trained very well to write propaganda. Unfortunately everything the author states about the real world is strongly biased. "If it had been Trump’s voters who had seen the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and Russia turn against them, then it would be Trump’s voters vibrating with outrage over the violation of key principles of American democracy." I think you miss the point. Trumps voters were vibrating with outrage over the violation of key principles of American LIFE. Truth, Freedom and the pursuit of happiness IS the American FUCKIN way and they have been sacrificed for the "identities" of a bunch of whiners who need more attention than their home town could give them.
It's not about our democracy, because we don't have one. We are a constitutional republic. It's not about how some snooty asses want to re-interpret some big word with thousands of years of precedent that LONG ago we KNEW ends up serving the rich and subjugating the poor in the name of economic stability. It's about the bulk of the REAL country, those NOT living on a coast sacrificing their sole for the almighty dollar and selfish dessert. Out here in the flyover states, we've watched the artists and boy lovers lead from their ivory towers for far too long. And, while we learned to stop judging because we're good Americans, we were judged. We've been named, labeled, judged and deemed unworthy by the young and the dimwhitted. We are not the first generation of adults to be so judged by those who haven't grown up.

We knew because we listened to the honest people who had TRUE bravery in their writing. We knew while Hollywood tried to hide it and while they continued the assault on mainstream hetero life in America. Just like we know the government and church are loaded with pedophiles RIGHT NOW! It's not a conspiracy theory, it just is, here and in the UK. But Hollywood and the entrenched power families keep that very hidden with millions of dollars and THOUSANDS of money grubbing, over educated minions working on their behalf. Minions that, for some reason, treat them like Gods all the while knowing what they are doing to lesser folk.
We need to swing back to true American principals like "do unto others..." not "let the PC hall monitors judge everybody else into submission". California is going as far as making it unlawful to address people with the incorrect PRONOUN. That's just bullshit. That's not an American way. That's somebody HIGH and MIGHTY letting the rest of the world know THEY have the propaganda stick now and the other 90% of us can suck it.
Further, President Trump is NOT a republican, he's a fuckin American two generations off the boat. He, like the rest of us, have watched power be rested from the reasonable people and given to the over-educated dimwits for decades. Get it through your head, he knew joining the major party was the only way to actually get into the position. Independents do NOT get elected. He doesn't hate on immigrants. He welcomes LEGAL immigrants with open arms. But we didn't spend three hundred years killing 60 MILLION natives to just hand it over to millions of assholes who launch their family members at us like smallpox loaded blankets over the walls of the fort. It's a nice research article by someone too young to truly understand the big picture or trained very well to write propaganda. Unfortunately everything the author states about the real world is strongly biased. "If it had been Trump’s voters who had seen the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and Russia turn against them, then it would be Trump’s voters vibrating with outrage over the violation of key principles of American democracy." I think you miss the point. Trumps voters were vibrating with outrage over the violation of key principles of American LIFE. Truth, Freedom and the pursuit of happiness IS the American FUCKIN way and they have been sacrificed for the "identities" of a bunch of whiners who need more attention than their home town could give them.
It's not about our democracy, because we don't have one. We are a constitutional republic. It's not about how some snooty asses want to re-interpret some big word with thousands of years of precedent that LONG ago we KNEW ends up serving the rich and subjugating the poor in the name of economic stability. It's about the bulk of the REAL country, those NOT living on a coast sacrificing their sole for the almighty dollar and selfish dessert. Out here in the flyover states, we've watched the artists and boy lovers lead from their ivory towers for far too long. And, while we learned to stop judging because we're good Americans, we were judged. We've been named, labeled, judged and deemed unworthy by the young and the dimwhitted. We are not the first generation of adults to be so judged by those who haven't grown up.
For years we were getting the ratchet straps tightened around our balls while we KNEW Harvey was a scandalous fuck. We knew because we listened to the honest people who had TRUE bravery in their writing. We knew while Hollywood tried to hide it and while they continued the assault on mainstream hetero life in America. Just like we know the government and church are loaded with pedophiles RIGHT NOW! It's not a conspiracy theory, it just is, here and in the UK. But Hollywood and the entrenched power families keep that very hidden with millions of dollars and THOUSANDS of money grubbing, over educated minions working on their behalf. Minions that, for some reason, treat them like Gods all the while knowing what they are doing to lesser folk.
We need to swing back to true American principals like "do unto others..." not "let the PC hall monitors judge everybody else into submission". California is going as far as making it unlawful to address people with the incorrect PRONOUN. That's just bullshit. That's not an American way. That's somebody HIGH and MIGHTY letting the rest of the world know THEY have the propaganda stick now and the other 90% of us can suck it.
Further, President Trump is NOT a republican, he's a fuckin American two generations off the boat. He, like the rest of us, have watched power be rested from the reasonable people and given to the over-educated dimwits for decades. Get it through your head, he knew joining the major party was the only way to actually get into the position. Independents do NOT get elected. He doesn't hate on immigrants. He welcomes LEGAL immigrants with open arms. But we didn't spend three hundred years killing 60 MILLION natives to just hand it over to millions of assholes who launch their family members at us like smallpox loaded blankets over the walls of the fort. Laws be damned right? By whatever means necessary...Fuck that.
You want traditional American values? How 'bout honor your country, your flag, our LAWS, your leader. But no I can't say that or the PC Hallmonitors call me a NAZI. Fuck you. I'm no fuckin nazi. I'm not racist. I'm not KKK. I'm a white guy and because I love my country the way it is and I don't want to speak spanish, let alone listen to a call to prayer twice a day, I'm called a demon on TV and the net every single fuckin day.
You wanna be told what should be done? The problem is not about democracy. Democracy will screw the little guy every time it gets a chance. It was designed for the ILLUSION of control for those who chase it. It will ALWAYS benefit those willing to work harder to achieve power. What we need is American values about being NICE. Figure it out. We spent 200 years progressing to what is now a VERY good place for EVERYBODY (at least those here legally). Why can't we enjoy it? Why can't the heteros and the homos and the dudes and the chicks and everyone just enjoy what you have, a GREAT platform for furthering you and your family. We even let MILLIONS of people legally immigrate to our country every year. This is a GREAT country, right now.
Unfortunately now the left wants vengeance, because most of them left their families behind to chase the big city dream. Toward that end they demonize everyone seen as the enemy on their propaganda box that is installed in everyone's living room. Try finding a tv show that is NOT hawking warped hollywood values. Even Supergirl and Wonder Woman are lesbians now. Veronica mars, a cute little white girl who I'm sure her Daddy had proud hopes for, banged a strange black bodybuilder turned bartender within minutes of meeting him in the FIRST episode. Really? What message DOES that send to our young women? That you have to be a Lesbian if you want to be special? That throwing your pussy around is your freedom and your RIGHT? Fuck you cable companies
Dear American Cable Company Users Like Myself,
So I went to watch American Horror Story: Cult episode 4 on FX today. I went to my trusty on demand that I pay $150 bucks a month for and search for my favorite show. I find it!
"Alright!", I say. Seriously, I'm hopeful at this point.
I find the episodes: 1, 2, 3... all free because I PAY FOR THE RIGHT TO WATCH FX! But, I notice that it's free if I have FX or FX+. I think to myself, "they must have a pay to stream service". I still felt good, I pay more because I do like FX. More than just AHS.
But that was really forshadowing because, you guessed it, not motherfucking NUMBER 4! These assholes want me to go get FX+ to see episode 4 on demand on the DVR I pay extra for, on the HD i pay extra for, on the PACKAGE I PAY EXTRA FOR BECAUSE IT HAS AMC AND FUCKING FX!
These guys are assholes. Boycott em if you can.
